MoPH launches website highlighting a healthy FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has launched a new website to highlight the aims, objectives and activities of its partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and FIFA, in collaboration with the Committee Supreme for Delivery and Legacy (SC) titled ‘Healthy FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 – Creating Legacy for Sport and Health.’

Officially launched in October 2021, the three-year partnership aims to make the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 a beacon for the promotion of physical and mental health, and a model to ensure that future major sporting events are healthy and safe. Ali Abdulla al-Khater, Chairman of the Supreme Healthcare Communications Committee, said: “We are proud to collaborate with WHO, FIFA and SC on this historic partnership. Together, we are committed to ensuring a safe FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 for all participants and to using the tournament as a platform to promote healthy lifestyles to local and global audiences. The new website provides more detail on the objectives of the partnership and highlights a number of activities that the MoPH and its partners have already carried out.
The partnership is based on the key pillars of health promotion, health security and health communications, with health promotion activities focusing on four main themes: physical activity, nutrition, health mental health and smoking. Dr Salih al-Marri, Deputy Minister for Health Affairs at MoPH, said: “A tremendous amount of work has already been undertaken since the signing of the partnership. We jointly organized several training workshops for health care teams in Qatar under the health security pillar, while our health promotion and communication efforts saw many awareness-raising activities organized for the Day. National Sports Day, World No Tobacco Day and World Blood Donor Day, to name a few. Our activities will increase exponentially in the run-up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, as part of our goal to positively impact the health and well-being of people around the world.
